If This Wicked Man Can Go To Heaven, So Can You (Gospel Light Minute X #399)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #399 titled, “If This Wicked Man Can Go To Heaven, So Can You.” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

Amazing. It’s the only way to describe the incredible transformation that took place in the life of John Newton. Newton was born in London in 1725. His mother died when he was seven. His father sent him to sea at age eleven. Working first as a cabin boy and then a deckhand, John was exposed to a life of drunkenness, profanity and immorality — and he embraced it. Soon, John surpassed his peers in outrageous behavior. Sharp-witted and sarcastic, he wrote offensive songs mocking the ship’s officers and expressing his contempt for their authority. He amused himself by inventing new swear words and leading his peers on reckless and dangerous escapades. He frequently deserted his post. Still in his teens, John was briefly enslaved on an African plantation and nearly died. But instead of sobering him, the experience only served to strengthen his rebellious spirit.

After Newton regained his freedom, he served time in the British Navy and eventually became captain of his own slave ship. As a slave trader, Newton’s heart grew even harder. He earned a reputation for being a foul-mouthed, ill-tempered man, despised by his subordinates and superiors alike. He cared for no one but himself and sought nothing but his own pleasure. How a Key Principle of Karate Helps You Understand Getting Your Soul Saved From Hell Through Jesus Christ (Gospel Light Minute X #389)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #389 titled, “How a Key Principle of Karate Helps You Understand Getting Your Soul Saved From Hell Through Jesus Christ.” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

Most people are familiar with Karate, a martial arts form of self-defense. Its origin dates back many centuries ago, when Chinese monks developed Kung Fu. In the 1600s, this system of self-defense was imported to the tiny island nation of Okinawa. Under the dominion of the Japanese Samurai, all weapons were banned to keep the people of Okinawa in subjection. For protection from their oppressors, the native people learned to use their farm tools as weapons, and over time perfected Chinese boxing into its present form we know as Karate.

The creed of all true Karate practitioners is this: I come to you with only karate, empty hands. I have no weapons, but should I be forced to defend myself, my principles, or my honor, be it a matter of life or death, right or wrong, then here are my weapons, karate, my empty hands.

This  reminds me of the way of salvation through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You see, the word “karate” literally means ‘empty hands’. The way of Karate (Karate-do[doe]) is the way for salvation. It Sounds Arrogant, But You Really Are “The Master of Your Fate” (Gospel Light Minute X #388)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #388 titled, “It Sounds Arrogant, But You Really Are ‘The Master of Your Fate’.” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

These haunting and thought-provoking words were written by the nineteenth century poet William Ernest Henley in a poem entitled “INVICTUS”. Henley was well known at the time in England, but, is best known today for the last line of this poem, which was written from a hospital bed as he suffered with tuberculosis. This line has been quoted in books, movies, and tattooed by many. It was quoted by Winston Churchill, Ashleigh Brilliant, and many people give Nelson Mandela credit for this phrase because he quoted it so often.

The words seem almost arrogant and defiant. However, if you will just think about it for a minute, these words are, oh, so true. You really are master of your own fate and the captain of your own soul. Continue reading “It Sounds Arrogant, But You Really Are “The Master of Your Fate” (Gospel Light Minute X #388)”

Are You Drinking Yet Still Thirsty For More? (Gospel Light Minute X #386)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #386 titled, “Are You Drinking Yet Still Thirsty For More?” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

ARE YOU THIRSTY?
Have you ever been so thirsty that you can’t imagine going one more second without something to quench your thirst? All that you can think about is finding even one sip of cold, refreshing water. Our bodies crave water. In fact, the human body can only survive a few days without it.

How about your soul—is it thirsty? Do you feel that something is missing in your life? Maybe you’ve tried to fill the void by staying busy with work or friends. Perhaps you’ve sought satisfaction in buying new things. Some even try to quench their inner thirst with relationships, parties, alcohol, or drugs. Where Do You Think You Are Going? (Gospel Light Minute X #372)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #372 titled, “Where Do You Think You Are Going?” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

If you’re like me, there’s nothing better after a busy day than settling into a favorite chair and just sitting still. But did you know that even while sitting still, we are still traveling thousands of miles per hour? Because of the earth’s rotation and its movement within the solar system and galaxy, we are hurtling through space at unimaginable speeds.

It’s amazing that we can be moving at such a high rate of speed and not be aware of it. But, in the same way, there are many people today who are speeding through life unaffected by how quickly they are approaching eternity.

Though we are all traveling through time and space together, there are different destinies in eternity. Where will you spend eternity—in Heaven or in Hell? Just think of being in an everlasting place of perfect happiness, or in a never-ending place of pure woe. You will be in one of these forever. Continue reading “Where Do You Think You Are Going? How to Make the Lord Your Shepherd (Gospel Light Minute X #364)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #364 titled, “How to Make the Lord Your Shepherd .” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

The Bible reads in Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”

The words of Psalm 23 have brought comfort to millions the world over. They tell of the Lord’s desire to refresh His people and of His faithfulness to guide them safely through all of life’s trials—and even death—to His heavenly home. How to Quench Your Thirst in Life (Gospel Light Minute X #360)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #360 titled, “How to Quench Your Thirst in Life.” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

Happiness, contentment, and peace of mind are the most longed-for and sought after things in all the world, and few there are who ever really find them. All around us people are searching madly for these precious treasures without success. Psychiatrists tell us that an ever-increasing number of people are aware of an inner emptiness in their lives. Their problems — personal and social — seem to increase faster than solutions can be found to solve them.

Is this all simply evidence of the emptiness of those who try to live without God? Man’s struggle for wealth, fame, and pleasure will not bring him the contentment and happiness that he yearns for. Yet, with a restlessness that is pitiful to see, people are searching from one thing to another, always hoping to find rest and satisfaction in some future accomplishment or possession. If No One Else Cares for You, God Does (Gospel Light Minute X #359)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #359 titled, “If No One Else Cares for You, God Does.” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

Some time ago someone placed this ad in a Kansas newspaper:

“I will listen to you talk for 30 minutes without comment for $5.00. “

Sounds like a joke, doesn’t it? But the person was serious. Did anybody call? You bet. It wasn’t long before this individual was receiving ten to twenty calls a day. The piercing pain of loneliness was so sharp that some were willing to try anything for a half hour of companionship.  Continue reading “If No One Else Cares for You, God Does (Gospel Light Minute X #359)”

God Created the World and He Created You, So He Loves You and Wants to Save You (Gospel Light Minute X #358)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #358 titled, “God Created the World and He Created You, So He Loves You and Wants to Save You” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

The Apollo 8 space mission in December, 1968, marked the first time that man had flown to the moon. While orbiting the moon, the crew made the famous “Christmas Eve broadcast,” a live television and radio event heard by an estimated one billion people. While on the air, the astronauts read part of the account of creation from Genesis chapter one. Each of the three astronauts took turns, starting with Major William Anders reading, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” After Captain James Lovell took his turn, Colonel Frank Borman ended with “And God saw that it was good.”

These three were the first men ever to see some of the wonders of the universe, and before a worldwide audience they gave credit to the One who made it all. He was the One who put the planets into their precise orbital motions, without which the calculations guiding the flight from the earth to the moon and back would have been impossible. In fact, Jim Lovell said of the flight to the moon: “We never really saw the moon…. By and large the body that we were rendezvousing with, that was coming from one direction as we were going to another, we never saw. And we took it on faith that the moon would be there.” Continue reading “God Created the World and He Created You, So He Loves You and Wants to Save You (Gospel Light Minute X #358)”
