PODCAST: New Life For Old Chairs (Gospel Light Minute X #465 with Daniel Whyte III)

New Life For Old Chairs (GLMX #465)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #465 titled, “New Life For Old Chairs” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

One never knows what “treasures” they may find at a garage sale, estate sale, or auction. I like to pick up chairs that need some tender loving care. I visualize the possibility of revitalizing them and giving them new life. Refinishing the wood and replacing the seat is a hobby I enjoy. It’s interesting to see the before and after pictures of chairs that otherwise may have been discarded–even burned–if I had not rescued them.

These chairs remind me of our lives. The Bible says in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”. Our natural lives are like the old chairs which are ready to be discarded. But God in His mercy sent His only son, Jesus, to die for our sins. He became our rescuer. John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

By believing what God did and trusting Him alone for our salvation, we become like a chair that receives new life and becomes useful again. Romans 10:9-10 simply tells us, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”

If we do not accept the fact that Jesus died for our sins, and do not trust in Him for eternal life, we are destined for the discard pile—like the old chairs if they had not been rescued.

The next time you see a dilapidated chair, be reminded of your life without Christ. You can be rescued and saved from the burn pile by trusting in Jesus. He will give you a new life of usefulness for Him!

If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour in the free pardon of your sins. Allow me to show you how you can place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ for your souls salvation from the power of sin and from the punishment of sin in that awful place called Hell. Please pray with me what is called the sinner’s prayer: Holy Father God, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I admit that I have sinned against You and that I have broken Your Ten Commandments. I have lied before. I have stolen things before. I have lusted after people and things before. I have dishonored and disobeyed my parents. I have taken Your holy Name in vain. For Jesus Christ’s sake, please have mercy and grace upon my soul and forgive me of all of my sins, my failures, and my faults. As I now believe in Your Holy Son the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that He suffered, bled, and died on the cross for my sins, was buried and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to repent of my sins past. Help me to turn from my old, evil life and follow You in the new life. For it is in Your Name I pray. Amen.

Yes, I Know So! (GLMX #458)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #458 titled, “Yes, I Know So!” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

As a physician for 33 years with a specialty of internal medicine, and a subspecialty in nuclear medicine, I advised my patients to have yearly physical examinations. Many were found to be in excellent health. However, at a later date, I was often called to the hospital emergency room to examine one of my patients with an acute emergency—a possible heart attack, an accident, or some other serious physical problem. Such patients were often fearful and apprehensive, with the thought of death uppermost in their minds.

After dealing with their medical emergency, I often heard them admit to being exposed to Christianity by radio or TV, but seldom read the Bible, prayed, or attended church. They were living good moral lives, performing good deeds, and giving to charities, but did not sense the peace of God.

Frequently I asked the question, “If you were to die unexpectedly, do you know for certain that you would enter heaven?” The typical answer was, “I think so,” or “I hope so.” However, some patients would answer, “Yes, I know so. I have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ and have peace with God. I am prepared for heaven.”

Do you ever wonder how you can know for certain that you have eternal life, peace with God, and be prepared to enter heaven?

All physicians have medical textbooks written by authorities to assist them in making a correct diagnosis and proper treatment. Humanity also has a guidebook, provided by the supreme spiritual authority—God. The Bible shows us how to know God, how to live a meaningful life that pleases him, and how to spend eternity in heaven.

The Bible also declares in Romans 3:23; 6:23 that we all have a fatal spiritual condition—“all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God….the wages of sin is death”. Like a critically ill patient must seek medical care to avoid death, we must find a solution to our sinful condition or we will die in our sins without God.

Thankfully, God has provided a cure. He did this by sending his Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross to cleanse us from all our sins. The Bible says in Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. The sinless Son of God took judgment, so God can justly forgive your sins and give you eternal life. Three days after His crucifixion, Christ came back to life, proving that He had fully paid the penalty for all our sins.

The Next Step

In order to belong to God’s family, you must, by faith, trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior. The Bible describes this step of faith like this: Romans 10:9-10 states, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”.

The Bible states in Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”. If you will call on Jesus Christ in faith as your Savior from the judgment you deserve, you will be saved. No one is excluded. That means you can know now that you are prepared to meet God in heaven. There’s no “Maybe” or “I hope so” or “I think so.” Only “I Know So!”

What is keeping you from putting your trust in Jesus Christ today? The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:2, “Now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation”.

If you want to be saved from the wrath to come and from an eternity in Hell, and if you believe that Jesus Christ suffered, bled, and died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead and you are willing to trust Jesus Christ with all of your heart so you can go to Heaven, please pray with me what is called the sinner’s prayer: Holy Father God, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I admit that I have sinned against You and that I have broken Your Ten Commandments. Amen.

If those words express your faith in Jesus Christ, three positive changes will result:

  1. You can say, “I know I have eternal life based on the authority of God’s Word.”

The Bible says in 1 John 5:13, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God”.

  1. You have peace with God.

The Bible states in Romans 5:1, “Therefore being justified [made right with God]  by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”.

  1. You have passed from spiritual death into eternal life…that begins now!

Jesus Christ said in John 5:24, “He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life”.

A Little Girl Seeks a Preacher to Get Her Dying Mother Into Heaven (Gospel Light Minute X #370)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #370 titled, “A Little Girl Seeks a Preacher to Get Her Dying Mother Into Heaven.” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

A well-known preacher was about to retire for the evening when there was a knock at his front door. Opening the door, he saw a poorly dressed little girl drenched from the rain. She had walked through the rainstorm from her home in the slum district to find the preacher. As he stood looking down into her thin, haggard little face, she inquired, “Are you the preacher?”

“Yes, I am a preacher,” he replied softly.

“Well won’t you come down and ‘get my mother in’?” she asked. The preacher wisely answered this little inquirer:

“My dear, it is hardly proper for me to come and ‘get your mother in’. If she is drunk, you should get a police officer. He is better qualified and properly dressed for the occasion.”

“Oh no sir,” she replied in haste and with more urgency in her small voice. “You don’t understand! My mother is not drunk; she is home in bed, dying, and she is afraid to die. She wants to go to Heaven, but does not know how,” He told her that he would help her find a preacher to “get her mother in.” She paused briefly, “NO! You must come quickly, sir; she is dying! Please! We don’t have time to wait.” Continue reading “A Little Girl Seeks a Preacher to Get Her Dying Mother Into Heaven (Gospel Light Minute X #370)”

This is a One-Way Street (Gospel Light Minute X #362)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #362 titled, “This is a One-Way Street .” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

The Word of God, the Bible, tells you that God knows all about you. He knows where you live, He knows your name, He even knows the thoughts and the secrets of your heart. “The Lord looketh on the heart.”

Yes, God knows all about you. He knows the good and bad things in your life. All the bad things are sin. To disobey is to sin. No one has to tell us how to be bad, we just are bad. The Word of God says in Romans 3:23, “…All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”. You see, you are a sinner and God says in Romans 6:23, “The wages of sin is death”. This death means to be separated from God and suffer in Hell for ever and ever.

Is there anything you can do to get rid of your sin by yourself? God says in Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast”. There is only one way to be saved, one way to have your sins forgiven. Continue reading “This is a One-Way Street (Gospel Light Minute X #362)”

So You Say You Are a Christian (Gospel Light Minute X #361)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #361 titled, “So You Say You Are a Christian.” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

How long have you been a Christian?

You may say, “I try to keep the Ten Commandments and do the best I can.” Some people say, “I became a Christian when I got baptized.” Others say, “I was born into a Christian family.”

How does someone become a Christian?

If someone could become a Christian by being born into a Christian family, by keeping the Ten Commandments, or by being baptized, we need to ask ourselves a very important question: Why did Jesus have to come to earth and die on the cross? My friend, the Bible has the answer! Continue reading “So You Say You Are a Christian (Gospel Light Minute X #361)”

Let Me Tell You About the Stars and Stripes (Gospel Light Minute X #351)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #351 titled, “Let Me Tell You About the Stars and Stripes.” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

“Tell us something about the Stars and Stripes!”

The young man thus addressed was preaching the Gospel in the public square of an American city, and the remark quoted was that made by a scoffer who had just left the hotel on the opposite side of the square.

It is often the case that an interruption at an open air meeting only serves to increase the number of listeners. It was so in this instance, and as the crowd quickly gathered around, the preacher stopped.

Facing the scoffer, he said: “Tell you something about the Stars and Stripes? I will, and with pleasure, for we read about the Stars and Stripes in the Bible. Continue reading “Let Me Tell You About the Stars and Stripes (Gospel Light Minute X #351)”

What Does it Mean to Say ‘Yes’ to God? (Gospel Light Minute X #336)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #336 titled, “What Does it Mean to Say ‘Yes’ to God?.” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

There is a lesson in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians where he describes what it means to say ‘Yes’ to God. You can read Paul’s words in Ephesians 2 in the Bible.
Saying ‘Yes’ to God means to throw yourself into the Arms of Jesus—the only Son of God Who:

  • lived among us for a time,
  • gave His life to make us right with God,
  • was raised from the dead,
  • was seen by hundreds in His new body,
  • and returned to the side of His (and your) Father where He is building His church and getting ready to set all things right when He returns.
  • This is the same Jesus Who invites you, right now, to come and join Him in His long term project for our world: setting all things right.

When you say ‘Yes’ to God, you invite God to set things right between Him and you. This is not a project you undertake. You don’t start following a set of rules. You simply throw yourself on God’s mercy and trust Him to fix things in you and for you. Continue reading “What Does it Mean to Say ‘Yes’ to God? (Gospel Light Minute X #336)”
