What is the Gospel? According to 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, the Gospel is embodied in these words: “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”

1 Corinthians 2:2 says, “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”

David Nicholas, the late pastor and founder of Gospel Boot Camps, broke down and explained 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 phrase-by-phrase. He continues: “‘Christ’ is the Messianic designation for Jesus encompassing all the prophecies of the Old Testament. The Messiah would be God who became a man to become our substitute. Often times, a pastor will give an invitation at the end of his message and ask people to come forward to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, but the pastor never explains who Jesus is. For many, it’s like saying, ‘Come forward and receive Narzak as your Savior and Lord.’ The person sitting there is thinking, ‘Who is Narzak? I have no idea, and therefore I will stay firmly glued to my seat!’ Preachers must explain who Jesus is — God the Son who became a man.”

——-

Now, if you are with us today and you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior, allow me to show you how you can place your faith and trust in Him for Salvation from sin and Hell.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the Cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour! For more information to help you grow in your newfound faith in Christ, go to Gospel Light Society.com and read “What To Do After You Enter Through the Door”. Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

What is the Gospel? 1 Corinthians 2:2 says, “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”

Dr. Walter A. Elwell, editor of the Tyndale Bible Dictionary, explains the Gospel of Christ: “Having risen from the dead, Jesus Christ again evangelizes, doing so now through his appointed representatives. More than that, Christ has become the central theme of the Gospel; the Proclaimer is now the Proclaimed. This is repeatedly affirmed in Acts and in Paul’s writings. The New Testament always speaks of the Gospel–never the gospels–of Christ. A second gospel is as inconceivable and as unnecessary as a second Christ. This is the one Gospel that God authorizes and proclaims.”

TEXT: Matthew 5:38-42:

38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

———-

G. Campbell Morgan said, “The old said, Insist on your own rights, love your neighbor, hate your enemy, and so secure your safety. The new says, Suffer wrong, and lavish your love on all.”

We all have experienced the feeling of being wronged by someone, whether family, friend, or enemy. We all have also experienced the urge to get retribution or justice for wrongs or perceived wrongs done to us. We know what the phrase, “an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth” means. The principle behind this phrase is a part of the Old Testament Jewish law, and Jesus addresses it now because, like many of the Old Testament laws, the religious leaders had twisted it into something that God had not intended for it to represent.

The proper sphere of the eye for an eye principle is civil government authority. It was the government’s responsibility to seek out wrongdoers and, after due process, extract judgment on behalf of those offended. But, over time, the religious teachers began to teach that retribution belonged in the sphere of personal responsibility. They taught that it was a man’s duty to seek to pluck out the eye of his fellow man if his own eye had been plucked out. However, this caused a great deal of problems because some would go after their neighbor for perceived offenses without an objective point of view; they would seek to get retribution and then some.

Jesus, however, says, “I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” Regarding this passage, Dr. John Walvoord writes, “Once again, the standards of Christ’s kingdom are contrasted to the Mosaic law. Rather than demand an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, Jesus exhorted His kingdom’s subjects not to resist evil but to turn the other cheek. Jesus then gave three specific examples of kingdom behavior: not resisting an adversary in court; volunteering to go the second mile (referring to the Roman practice of commandeering civilians to carry the luggage of military personnel a prescribed distance, one Roman mile.); and giving to those who borrow rather than turning them away. In the millennial kingdom, such high standards could be literally enforced.”

But, we do not live in the millennial kingdom. So, how do we apply the true intent of Jesus’ words in our everyday lives? If the Lord tarries His coming and we live, that is what we will begin looking at in our next message.

Jesus Reveals God’s True Intent Behind the Law, Part 25 (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 266 since Jan. 20, 2017 / Day 633 since Jan. 1, 2016)

1 Corinthians 2:2 says, “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”

Dr. Walter A. Elwell, editor of the Tyndale Bible Dictionary, explains the call to Salvation: “‘Repent and believe the Gospel,’ Jesus commands. The self-righteous and the self-sufficient must be jolted out of their false sense of security and humbly recognize their need for God. Only then will Jesus’ message to the poor be seen as Gospel. An announcement of liberation is good news only to people who are enslaved and know they are. The command applies also to the destitute and the afflicted. Those among them who bemoan their lot must repent of their sins. But something further is needed for the response to be complete: a person cannot believe Jesus’ Gospel without a commitment to the Person of Christ. Even those who are already ‘poor in spirit’ are not really ‘blessed’ until they acknowledge the truth of Jesus’ claims and commit themselves to a life of obedience on His terms.”

Jesus Reveals God’s True Intent Behind the Law, Part 23 — Vows, Swearing, and Promises (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 263 since Jan. 20, 2017 / Day 630 since Jan. 1, 2016)

1 Corinthians 2:2 says, “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”

Dr. Walter A. Elwell, editor of the Tyndale Bible Dictionary, continues explaining the Gospel as the message of God’s grace: “The publican, who had nothing to offer God but a confession of sin and plea for mercy, went home justified. The same holds true for the more virtuous among the poor, such as the persons described in Matthew 5:7-10. Their virtue is real, not imagined. Yet in keeping God’s commands, they do not put Him in their debt; they are simply doing their duty. The first servant in Matthew 18 owes far more money than someone in such a situation could possibly pay—which serves to magnify the generosity of the king. The exercise of grace depends upon the inability of its objects.”

TEXT: Matthew 5:33-37:

33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:

35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

———-

J. Vernon McGee said, “When a man says to me, ‘I’d swear on a stack of Bibles a mile high,’ that is the man I do not believe because I think the lie he is telling is a mile high.”

We live in a day where the temptation to break promises and agreements for personal benefit is always present. In the world, business people do it, politicians do it, governments do it. One of the most sacred vows ever taken, that of marriage, is routinely trampled on by thousands of couples every year. For many, their word is their bond only until the bond is not beneficial to their personal interests any more.

Jesus calls His people to a much higher standard in the world. While the Jewish religious leaders attempted to provide wiggle room in the law for those who made vows or oaths, Jesus is adamant in his rejection of this kind of life. For the believer, our communication ought to be, “Yea, yea; Nay, nay.” Our “yes” ought to mean “yes” and our “no” ought to mean “no,” and our lives ought to back up our words.

J. Dwight Pentecost said, “Let your character, your reputation for honesty, and your word be so obviously true and undefiled and without duplicity, that no man would think it necessary to put you under an oath because he suspects you are of deception… Some words can have a double meaning, and some words can be interpreted in two different ways. But there is only one possible way of interpreting yes and no.” Yes does not mean no; no does not mean yes; and neither means maybe.

Saints, with Jesus as our example, we ought to be people who do not have to consider making an oath or swearing in order to demonstrate that what we are saying is true. The only way to build confidence and trustworthiness is to always tell the truth, mean what we say, and do what we say we will do.

Shanna Zolman Began Enjoying Basketball After she Made Jesus the ‘Ultimate Leader’ in her Life (Gospel Light Minute #238)

She is a professional basketball player who plays for the Tulsa Shock of the WNBA. She was drafted 16th overall in 2006 by the San Antonio Silver Stars after completing college at the University of Tennessee. At Tennessee, she is the 9th scorer in the school’s women’s basketball history. She is also an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

She said of her journey to faith in Christ, “I was raised in the great basketball state of Indiana and I began dribbling a basketball not long after I learned to walk.

“Then at the age of seven, I made the decision to become a Christian. A couple years ago something very interesting happened to me. I was going through a major slump in my game. The first half of my junior season at the University of Tennessee was the worst I have ever had as an athlete. I placed the blame on many different things, but the slump remained. God really got my attention, and I realized that I had been trying to find significance and fulfillment in my success as a basketball player instead of finding it in my relationship with Jesus Christ.

“When I got my priorities back in order and looked to Him as the ultimate Leader for my life, I began to enjoy basketball again. My life and my game are far from perfect, but I realize that Jesus is the One Who gives meaning and purpose to it all.”

Somewhere to Hide from All of This Madness (Gospel Light Minute X #293)

Daniel Whyte III

Daniel Whyte III

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, reminding you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

You can’t keep up with the news today without noting that most of it is worrisome, scary, and out-right depressing. Turn on the TV or browse your favorite web portal, and you will be confronted with story after story of death, tragic accidents, terrorism, political instability, and war.

The constant stream of negative news is affecting people’s mental well-being. Health and psychology expert Carolyn Gregoire writes, “Exposure to negative and violent media may have serious and long-lasting psychological effects beyond simple feelings of pessimism or disapproval. The work of British psychologist Dr. Graham Davey, who specializes in the psychological effects of media violence, suggests that violent media exposure can exacerbate or contribute to the development of stress, anxiety, depression and even post-traumatic stress disorder…. Exposure to negative news can lead to a pessimism and world-weariness that leads us to perceive the state of the world in an overly negative light.”

It has gotten so bad that some, such as bestselling Swiss writer Rolf Dobelli, have advocated for cutting out news consumption altogether. But with the ubiquitous presence of the media in our lives — via televisions, computers, phones, tablets, social media, and other “always-on” devices — this is extremely difficult. Yet, for their own mental well-being many are looking for a way to hide from a world seemingly gone mad. In the words of singer-songwriter Maggie Eckford, better known as Ruelle, “[There’s] nowhere to run from all of this havoc… nowhere to hide from all of this madness.”

But there is. If you are looking for relief from the negativity and havoc of society, you can find it in the Almighty God. David, the psalmist and king of Israel, wrote “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” Note the benefits of taking refuge in God: “Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence [disease] that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.”

Wouldn’t you like to be free from depression, worry, and fear over the terrorism, death, destruction, disease, and darkness that seems impossible to escape? You can only be free from these things in your heart, mind, and soul if you turn to God and place your faith and trust in His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “In the world, ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” He also said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” You can have that peace, even in the midst of the chaos of our world, if you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ today. If you do, the Bible says, “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep (guard and protect) your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Would you like to have peace in this world, and then enjoy eternal peace in Heaven with God? If so, there are a few steps you must take.

First, you must realize and admit that you — just as myself — are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s laws. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 7:20: “For there is not a just man upon earth that doeth good, and sinneth not.” Romans 3:23 reads: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Our sin nature is the reason why we do not get along with each other on earth.

Second, you must understand that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…” — spiritual death and physical death. We die physically and go to the grave because of sin and we die spiritually and go to hell because of sin.

Third, you must understand that you are on the road to hell because of your sins. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” The Bible says in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Fourth, you must accept the fact that you cannot do anything to save yourself! The Bible states in Ephesians 2: 8, 9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Fifth, you must accept the fact that God loves you more than you love yourself, and that He wants to save you from hell. Because of God’s love for you, he sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for your sin. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Because God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the Cross for our sins, we can live with God in Heaven for all eternity after we die.

Finally, with these facts in mind, you must repent of your sins, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and pray and ask Him to come into your heart and save you this very moment. The Bible states in the book of Romans 10:9, 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you are willing to trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour, please pray with me the following prayer to seal your decision once and for all: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and I want to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! I want to congratulate you on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
