The Main Thing God Wants You to Do In Light of the 1,000-Year Flood of Texas (Gospel Light Minute X #286)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, reminding you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

The images coming out of Texas this week have been striking — water levels as high as trees and stop signs, cars and trucks submerged, people riding boats where they used to drive, entire neighborhoods reduced to what look like miniature archipelagos — just the roofs of houses visible above the waterline. So much rain has fallen thanks to Hurricane Harvey that it has set a new record for most rainfall in the continental United States. The flooding in the southern and southeastern part of the state has been unprecedented and the aftermath of the deluge has left over 50 people dead and over 30,000 people displaced.

It is hard for many, especially those who live in America, to imagine their entire community and all of their belongings washed away by a hurricane. Unfortunately, many have lost valuable possessions; for example, reports indicate that nearly a million vehicles will be declared total losses.

Seeing the flooding in my adopted state of Texas, which I love, reminds me of the Great Flood which occurred thousands of years ago. God sent that worldwide flood to not only destroy the earth, but to destroy every living thing — people and animals — except those who were safe with Noah in the ark. God sent the flood then because the people of earth had become exceedingly wicked and violent and God decided to rid the earth of them and start all over with Noah and his family and the animals.

After that flood, the Bible tells us that God put the rainbow in the sky as a sign of His promise that He would never judge the earth again by a worldwide flood. The rainbows we see today are a beautiful reminder of that promise.

However, we should also be reminded of something else from the Word of God — that God still hates sin and that we will still be judged for our actions in this life. The Bible says clearly that the “wages of sin is death” and that “all have sinned.” If you are alive, you are a sinner, and that means that you will one day die. However, death does not have to be the end of the story. God loves you and wants to save you from your sins in this life and from the eternal punishment for sin — separation from Him in a place called Hell. Whether you like it or not, that is the judgment that awaits every person who dies without taking care of their sin problem on this side of eternity.

Very briefly, I want to share with you how you can take care of your sin problem and avoid God’s judgment. Please listen carefully: Continue reading

Ellen Renfroe: “Let God Transform You” (Gospel Light Minute #231)

Ellen Renfroe

Daniel Whyte III

Daniel Whyte III

She is a softball player who played from 2011 to 2014 with the Tennessee Lady Volunteers. In three of the four seasons she played, she was named All-American and each year she was an All-SEC player. In 2013, she played on the Women’s College World Series All-Tournament team, which finished second behind Oklahoma. This Fall, she will take on the duties of head coach of the Lady Wildcats at Tennessee’s Bethel University.

Writing for Beyond the Ultimate, she said, “I arrived at Tennessee with a pressure to perform. Over time I found myself trying so hard to please my coaches, impress the media, and get attention from our growing fan base that I was beginning to lose sight of what was really important in my life. I had become broken down — drained physically, emotionally, and most of all, spiritually.

“I was sitting in our dugout preparing for a big game when my older sister and fellow pitcher, Ivy, said to me, ‘Ellen, you have it all wrong. You need to remember that Christ is the only One you should be playing for. He is the One Who has given you the talent to play so you should give your best for him and no one else with each pitch you throw.’ I believe this was a turning point in my life spiritually. As I changed my perspective to competing for God instead of being caught up by those other things, I began to experience a new sense of energy each day I stepped on the mound.

“Romans 12:1-2 says, ‘I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice — the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.’”

She went on to say, “Jesus sacrificed Himself so that we can have a relationship with God. I struggled with allowing God to transform me into a new athlete; will you allow Him to transform your own life?”

Her name is Ellen Renfroe.

This is the “Chief of Sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, reminding you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me. Just as Ellen Renfroe trusted Jesus Christ as her Saviour, may I encourage you to do the same. Here is how:

1. Accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 7:20: “For there is not a just man upon earth that doeth good, and sinneth not.” Romans 3:23 reads: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” In fact, I am the chief of sinners, so don’t think that you’re alone.

2. Accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

3. Accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” The Bible says in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

4. Accept the fact that you cannot do anything to save yourself! The Bible states in Ephesians 2: 8, 9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

5. Accept the fact that God loves you more than you love yourself, and that He wants to save you from hell. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

6. With these facts in mind, please repent of your sins, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and pray and ask Him to come into your heart and save you this very moment. The Bible states in the book of Romans 10:9, 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Dear friend, if you are willing to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, please pray with me this simple prayer: Heavenly Father, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour! For more information to help you grow in your newfound faith in Christ, go to Gospel Light Society.com and read “What To Do After You Enter Through the Door”. Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

Remember, friend, Believe by faith. Share the faith. and Keep the faith!
