The Free State of Glory (Part 26) — A Place Where There is No Darkness

TEXT: Revelation 22:1-7

1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

6 And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.

7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

The Free State of Glory (Part 26)

In Heaven, we will be with God, we will serve God, we will see His face, and we will have His name etched in our foreheads, marking us as His own forever. Because all things in the state of glory will be of God and by God, there will be no darkness in that blessed existence. Up there, we will walk in the light forever. The Bible says, “there will be no night there.”

We won’t need the sun or light bulbs or candles. The only light we need will emanate from the presence of God. Everything will be imbued by his radiance. This eternal light is both physical and spiritual. The world is a very dark place. We only need to read the news from the past few days in order to see that that is the case. All of the darkness that we see is a result of sin and people rejecting God’s plan for their lives. In Heaven, this shadow will be gone because the Lord Himself will provide light and all in Heaven will bask in it.

Regarding the contrast of the darkness of this world with the light of Heaven, F.J. Scott writes in The Biblical Illustrator, “The declaration of a place where there is no night would not be good news to us in our present state. Night brings rest and refreshment to our wearied bodies and often over-laden minds, while daylight invites us unceasingly to toil and anxiety? However, if we think upon the subject, we shall see that the blessings of the night are all connected with our state of trouble, labour, and imperfection. Thus we may understand there being in heaven no time of sleep and darkness because in Heaven, there is neither sin nor trouble to make either necessary.”

One of the most well-known myths of ancient times is that of Prometheus who brought fire from heaven to provide light and heat to man. In a spiritual sense, man has tried for ages to light up this dark world, but his attempts have been in vain. Two thousand years ago, a Light did come into the world, but that Light shines still in a “dark place.” And, often, those in darkness reject Him and do not comprehend Him. But, in Heaven, darkness will be non-existent. We will ‘need no candles, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God Himself will give us light.’

Charles Silvester Horne wrote:

Sing we the King who is coming to reign,
Glory to Jesus, the Lamb that was slain;
Righteousness, peace then His empire shall bring,
Joy to the nations when Jesus is King.

All men shall dwell in His marvelous light,
Races long severed His love shall unite,
Justice and truth from His scepter shall spring,
Wrong shall be ended when Jesus is King.

Kingdom of Christ, for thy coming we pray,
To reign with Thee, we long for the day
When this new song Thy creation shall sing,
Satan is vanquished and Jesus is King.

If you want to live in the light of Heaven with Christ and God, allow me to share with you how you can place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation from sin and the punishment of sin:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! Congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. God loves you. We love you. And may God bless you.
