Proverbs 15:22 says, “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.”

— PRAYER —

As President Trump begins his time in office, the Lord has led me share some practical and biblically-based ways in which he can help black America as well as some practical and biblically based ways black America can be of help to him.

So far, we have named the following:

1. President Trump Can Help Black America by Setting a Godly Example
2. President Trump Can Help Black America by Not Circumventing the Legitimate Leadership of the Black Community; Rather he Should Reach Out to Them Respectfully and Individually

1. Black Americans Can Help President Trump by Praying for him
2. Black Americans Can Help President Trump by being Open-minded and Giving him a Chance

Allow me to share with you another way Trump can help black America and another way black America can help Trump.

— President Trump Can Help Black America by Hiring a Trusted African-American to be One of his Senior Advisers Along with Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, and Jared Kushner

Proverbs 15:22 says, “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.”

Here, again, the Bible speaks of the wisdom of those who seek out the counsel of others. This verse speaks of a “multitude” of counsellors — that is, many counsellors. God has blessed all people with different gifts. Everyone does not have the same type of insight or way of seeing things. That is why He expects leaders — and all people — to seek out the advice of others. If they do so, the Bible says their purposes or plans will be “established.” The word “established” means to stand or to be accomplished. Those initiatives that have the firm foundation of solid council will be more likely to be successful.

John Gill said, “If a man determines and resolves upon a matter, and at once hastily goes about it, without mature deliberation, without consulting with himself and taking the advice of others, it generally comes to nothing. However, having the advice of others, even many others, he can be confirmed that he is right in what he has thought of and purposed to do; and therefore goes about it with the greater spirit and cheerfulness, and is more likely to succeed, and generally does.”

Here is one way President Trump can take this advice to have “many” counsellors in his cabinet. It has been said before that politics is a game of perception. What things look like is what people will believe they are. If President Trump does not have any black people in the key advisory roles in his cabinet, it will be difficult for him to fight the assumption that he does not care about black people. However, having a trusted respected black Christian person advising him alongside Kellyanne Conway, Steve Bannon, and Jared Kushner can go a long way to easing the concerns that many in the African-American community have. Black people need to know that someone who has their back also has the president’s ear.

Mr. Trump should not be afraid to tap someone who has publicly disagreed with him for this advisory role for he has done so with other cabinet and advisory picks and that is a positive thing. He needs to be able to hear things from someone who is not enamored with his wealth or his power. He needs someone who will be able to tell him the truth as to what is really going on in the black community, what black people are really saying and feeling, and what they really need. This would be a tremendous help to him and to the black community.

Additionally, Mr. Trump would help himself a great deal if he hired some African-Americans in all departments of government, making some leaders of those departments. He also should direct his children to hire more blacks in prominent positions throughout his companies.

— Now, here is the third thing black people can do to help the new president: Black Americans Can Help President Trump by Respecting the Office Even if They Can’t Respect the Man Occupying the Office

Mark 12:17 says, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

Romans 13:1-7 says, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.”

All Christians are called to respect governmental authority, no matter who is in office. R.C. Sproul said, “The function of government is to restrain evil and to maintain, uphold, and protect the sanctity of life and property. Given this function, the Christian understands that government is ordained of God, and so Christians, first of all, are called to respect whatever it is that God institutes and ordains. For God sake we are called to be model citizens. We are told to honor the king or be obedient to the civil magistrates. That doesn’t mean a slavish obedience to the civil magistrates. There are occasions on which Christians not only may, but must, disobey the civil magistrates. Anytime a civil government requires a Christian to do what God forbids or forbids them to do what God commands, then the person must disobey. But our basic posture toward government, according to the New Testament, is to be submissive and obedient citizens of the state.”

The office of President is not and has never been about the person occupying it. The framers of the Constitution specifically crafted the government so that it was not about the man (or woman) who held the office. The authority lies in the office itself, not the person. President Obama’s chief speechwriter, Cody Keenan said, “The office of the presidency is way bigger than the man.” That is why we have had forty-four successful and smooth transfers of power for over 240 years.

So, if you cannot bring yourself to respect President Trump, you can at least respect the office he holds. This respect is something we render to “Caesar” because that is what God has commanded and is, in fact, what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ did when he told Peter to pay his taxes to Caesar. And Jesus is God. When a soldier is given orders, it does not matter what he thinks of his commanding officer or even the Commander-in-Chief. He is obligated to carry out what he has been instructed to do. Even with Mr. Trump as President, you are obligated to obey the laws of the land, to pay your taxes, and to give all government authority the respect they deserve.

In closing, allow me to remind you that the only way America’s problems can be truly solved is through Jesus Christ, God’s Son who came to this earth two thousand years ago. The problem with people on this earth is sin. And Jesus came to die on the cross for our sins, so that we would not have to suffer eternal punishment in Hell. Billy Graham once said, “I do not believe that any man can solve the problems of life without Jesus Christ.” No matter what problems you are facing, you can only find the solution for your problems in Jesus Christ. If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, please allow me to show you how you can accept Him as your Savior today:

1. Accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 7:20, “For there is not a just man upon earth that doeth good, and sinneth not.” Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

2. Accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death…”

3. Accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28, “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

4. Accept the fact that God loves you more than you love yourself, and that He wants to save you from hell. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

With these facts in mind, please repent of your sins, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and pray and ask Him to come into your heart and save you this very moment. Romans 10:9, 13 says: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you are willing to trust Christ as your Saviour, please pray the following prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour!
