Jesus the Triumphant, Part 10 (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 186)

TEXT: John 12:27-33

27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.

30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.

31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.

Today, I am continuing the daily Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign sermon series, which is aimed at sharing the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ with unbelievers and reminding Christians, in this important election year, to keep the main thing the main thing — and that is reaching unbelievers with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and praying for their salvation, for the problem in America is not only disobedient presidents, politicians, and people, but disobedient pastors, preachers, and parishioners who have refused to obey the Lord’s Great Commission which is to, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” and who have refused to obey God’s repeated commands to “pray without ceasing” for unbelievers, believers, and political leaders. Yes, you should pray for the right candidate to win; yes, you should vote for the candidate that the Lord gives you peace about voting for. But, don’t get caught up in it like the world does. Nothing much is going to change until people get saved and get their hearts right with the Lord.

This campaign is inspired by the following three verses: 1 Corinthians 2:2 which says, “For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” Acts 5:42 which says, “And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.” And 2 Timothy 2:4 which says, “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”

This series is not for Christians necessarily. However, I do hope you are one of those saints who still loves to hear the “Old, old story of Jesus and His love” — As another hymn says, “For those who know it best Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest.” This series is primarily for unbelievers, so they can hear and understand the Gospel and be saved from sin and the punishment of sin which is hell. This is message number 186.

C.S. Lewis said, “Enemy-occupied territory — that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed, you might say landed in disguise, and is calling us all to take part in a great campaign of sabotage.”

When Jesus publicly accepts God’s plan for Him, the Heavenly Father speaks from Heaven expressing approval of His Son. It is unclear whether or not the people understood the actual words that were said. What is clear is that they knew that what they were hearing was divine. The Bible says, “The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.” God declared His approval of His Son, giving the people additional confidence in Him.

Now that He has accepted His hour, He knows that things are coming to a head. He says, “Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.”

In the events leading up to and during the crucifixion, not only were the sins of the world being judged in Jesus, but the world itself was being judged by God. The “world” is a reference to the fallen state of man led by Satan, ‘the prince of this world’ who caused it to fall. The world is in opposition to God’s kingdom. Jesus left His place in God’s kingdom and came to Earth to save the world. Yet, as we have seen throughout the Gospel of John, the world largely rejected Jesus. It is as if a Coast Guard ship sent a lifeboat to rescue drowning men, and the men not only refused to get on the lifeboat, but they dragged the captain of the lifeboat down into the water with them.

When Jesus was put on trial, the world system was also put on trial. People, in general, think of themselves as basically good. Surely, all of the good people in Jerusalem who had come for the Passover would not allow an innocent man to be crucified. But, no; the world system showed its true colors on that day. Some of the same people who were singing Jesus’ praises on Monday or Tuesday were demanding ‘Crucify Him! Crucify Him!’ on Friday. The world chose a robber over the innocent Son of God. What happened that weekend was an indictment against the world system and the people in it. Their actions showed that they were, as the Bible says, depraved and desperately wicked.

Not only was the world judged, but Jesus said, “now shall the prince of this world be cast out.” The Fall came when the first man faced a test from Satan and failed to pass that test. His failure broke the fellowship between God and the human race, allowing mankind to become slaves to a sin nature with Satan as their prince. The world became Satan’s “territory.”

When God sent Jesus down to Earth, it was as though He had launched a missile from Heaven. It was a declaration of war — a war for the hearts and souls of mankind. Jesus’ struggle over His own crucifixion and His death on the cross was the great battle of that war. It was a test — one that Jesus passed. By willingly dying on the cross for the sins of the world and then rising from the dead, Jesus accomplished what had been prophesied all the way back in Genesis. He crushed Satan’s head — threw him off his throne — deposed him of his phony position of leadership in the world. ‘The prince of the world was cast out.’

One of the most powerful scenes in The Passion of the Christ movie comes at the very end right after the resurrection, where the devil, who has been lurking in the background and instigating things in the hours leading up to the crucifixion, realizes that everything has gone wrong for him. The closing scene shows him in a pit, throwing off his cloak, and howling up at the sky in anguish.

It may have looked for a while like Jesus would be defeated on that day, but Jesus was triumphant. By His crucifixion, He exposed the world for what it is and cast the devil out of his position of control. Jesus the Triumphant!

Now, you do not have to be a slave to sin or Satan. You can choose a better way. You can choose the way of Jesus Christ, the Triumphant One. You can be on the winning side, singing with so many others…

Once I drifted out in sin, had no hope nor joy within,
And my soul was burdened down with pride
Then my Savior came along and He showed me I was wrong,
Now I know I’m on the winning side.

Well, I’m on the winning side, yes, I’m on the winning side,
Out in sin no more will I abide;
I’ve enlisted in the fight for the cause of truth and right,
Praise the Lord, I’m on the winning side!

Get on the winning side today, dear friend by receiving Jesus Christ as your Savior. Here is how:

John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The Bible also says in Romans 10:9 and 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and I want to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour!
