Prayer and Warfare, Part 5 (Onward Christian Soldiers #121)

Onward Christian Soldiers

Our key Bible verse is John 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Our lesson today is titled “Prayer and Warfare, Part 5”

Regarding this passage, the Bible Exposition Commentary states, “To ask anything of the Father, in the name of Jesus, means that we ask what Jesus would ask, what would please Him, and what would bring Him glory by furthering His work. When a friend says to you, ‘You may use my name!’ he is handing you a great privilege as well as a tremendous responsibility. The ‘whatsoever’ is qualified by all that God has revealed in His Word about prayer, likewise, the word ‘anything.’ God is not giving us carte blanche;’in My name’ is the controlling element. To know God’s name means to know His nature, what He is, and what He wants to do. God answers prayer in order to honor His name: therefore, prayer must be in His will. Any request that does not glorify God’s name should not be asked in His name.”

When we have learned how to keep in touch with God through prayer and the reading of His Word, then God can use us in the battle against Satan. Now let’s review some facts concerning the warfare between God and Satan.

1. God created this earth. It belongs to Him. Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”

2. God gave the rulership of this earth to man. God gave Adam dominion over all the earth.

3. Adam rebelled against God. He took sides with Satan and came under the power of Satan. Thus Adam lost the rulership of the world, and Satan took it over. It was through sin that Satan gained control of the world.

4. God wanted to bring this world back to Himself, and He wanted to do it through a man. So God sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, into the world as His second Man.

5. A great battle raged between Satan and the Lord Jesus, God’s second Man. The Lord Jesus was tempted as no man was ever tempted, but He was victorious over all the temptations of Satan. Finally, in desperation, Satan stirred up people to crucify Jesus.

When the Lord Jesus lay in the tomb, Satan thought he had won the victory. But on the third day, the Lord Jesus arose—Victor over all the powers of darkness. Satan knew then that he was defeated.

The Lord Jesus was given all authority in heaven and in earth. Satan and his forces of darkness were stripped of their authority. The Lord Jesus ascended back into Heaven, where He is seated at the right hand of the Father “far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion.”

As we engage in spiritual warfare, we must remember that we are engaging an enemy who is already defeated. Satan was defeated by Jesus when Jesus rose from the dead. He had the victory over the devil, and He gives us the same victory over the devil in our lives today.

If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Saviour, John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The Bible also says in Romans 10:9 and 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and I want to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! I want to congratulate you on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

Until next time, May the Lord Bless You!
