Prayer and Warfare, Part 2 (Onward Christian Soldiers #118)

Onward Christian Soldiers

Our key Bible verse is John 14:14: “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”

In our last lesson, we answered the questions: (1) What is prayer? (2) To whom do we pray? and (3) Why must we pray in Jesus’ name?

The Bible tells us that Jesus is our intercessor in Heaven. However, we not only have an intercessor in Heaven, but we also have an intercessor in our heart—the Holy Spirit. He helps us to pray. Many times we do not know God’s will about a matter, and therefore we do not know how to pray about it. But the Holy Spirit knows the mind of God, and He helps us to pray according to God’s will. The Bible says, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us…”

Does prayer really influence God’s actions? Yes, it does! How do we know? Because God says so. The Lord Jesus said, “If ye ask anything in My name, I will do it.” In this verse, the Lord tells us plainly that His doing depends upon our asking. “If you ask…I will do.”

God is omnipotent—He can do anything He chooses to do. But God has chosen to use our prayers in accomplishing His work here on this earth. Do you see now why prayer is so important?

Prayer is not just asking God for things. There are three main forms of prayer: (1) communion, (2) petition, and (3) intercession.

If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Saviour, John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The Bible also says in Romans 10:9 and 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and I want to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! I want to congratulate you on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Until next time, May the Lord Bless You!
